Where Hurricane Costs Land
I pulled together data on 43 U.S. hurricanes from 2002 to 2023, along with FEMA aid, flood claims, and state economic data. What surprised me most is that a storm's category tells you very little about what it costs. Sandy was only a Category 1 and still cost more than Michael, the one Category 5 in the data.
